Final word for Surfing at King’s for 2023
Just as the new competitive season for our surfers starts up again, we had a final notable result to end the last season with. Our King’s boys competed at the National Scholastics Surfing Competition for Otago / Southland in Gisborne in September and were part of a team that placed fourth out of around 11 other regional teams. This was their best result for several years.
Our King’s boys competing were: Keo Morrison, Jack Higgins and Flynn Dewey (U14) and Lewis Murphy (U16).
All our boys did well with Jack and Keo both getting to ninth in NZ, individually. Flynn also reached his goal of getting through a heat competing on a national level.
The top achiever was undoubtedly Lewis Murphy who advanced through multiple heats alongside the eventual winner and fellow Otago team-mate Alexis Owen (Otago Boys’ High School).
Lewis ended up in the final and placing fourth in New Zealand for U16 which was a proud moment for us all.
All the best for the new season boys and a special thanks to Jack Higgins' Dad, Craig Higgins who coached the boys throughout the 2023 season.
