Volleyball

Dave Conrad —

Over the past two weekends the King’s High School Volleyball programme has been in full swing, with our Senior Lions in Division 1 and our Senior Vikings in Division 3 attending the Mainland Championships in Christchurch.

This culminated with our Senior Lions then attending the Otago Championships to get their seedings for the upcoming NZ Secondary School Championships in Palmerston North taking place from 27th March -1st April.

At the Mainland Tournament the Senior Lions had a successful time being placed 4th after losing the playoff for 3rd & 4th in a 5-set thriller, which we should have really won after been up 2 sets to 0, however, that wasn’t to be and a very good learning experience for this very young side.

The Senior Vikings had a hectic tournament as well, gaining five wins out of the eight games played and this team got better with every game played.

Last Saturday/Sunday the Lions took part in the Otago Championships, making it through to the final for the 4th year running but coming up short against a good John McGlashan College side.

All this meant that we become the second seed from the Otago region and now wait to see who we will be drawn against at the upcoming National Tournament.

Congratulations to Tevita Tu’i, Tom Severne and Finn Apii who all made the Tournament team.

A massive shout out to our coaching staff of Chase Iti, Andy Campbell and managers John Salisbury and Garry Turner for all their efforts during the last two weekends, good luck to the boys attending Nationals at the end of March.
