Baxter Poetry Competition

Darren Eade —

The James K. Baxter Poetry Reading Competition continues to establish itself as a fixture in our school and this year certainly didn’t disappoint.

Honouring one of New Zealand’s most celebrated writers, and a King’s Old Boy, boys from different classes laid it all on the line in front of the entire Year 9 cohort. The event consists of memorising a complete poem and reciting it in the PAC.

All 15 speakers need to congratulated, however, the following boys distinguished themselves from their peers with their poise, courage and skill.

Finalists were: Sam Dorne-Cumming, 9Jf; Nathan Carter, 9Gn; Andrew Derks, 9Ds.

Runners Up: Nukuroa McLean, 9Co; Benjamin Nicol, 9Jw.

And the winner was Callum Davies, 9Jw.

So well done to Callum and all involved.
