Key Highlights from King’s High School so far in 2021

Cursey Adie-Cropley —

Strong qualifications and strong character are one of our key messages at King’s for 2021. Our boys continued to excel despite challenging times. We recently celebrated the students 2020 NCEA results published in January 2021.

31 Scholarships were awarded to 17 students across 17 different subject disciplines. This included seven Outstanding Scholarships. We are very proud of the boys which also reflects the amazing depth of talent we have within our students and teaching staff.

2020 was a slightly different year academically for all students and our scholarships were slightly down on what we achieved in 2019 with 52 Scholarships. However, we can confirm King’s remains

  • Top perform in NZQA Scholarships in Otago and Southland (South Island)
  • One of the top four schools overall in the South Island
  • One of the top seven boys’ schools in New Zealand

King’s boys are pushed to achieve by their teachers. Expectations are high. It is, however, a positive push, a supported push, a purposeful push, one made to generate diverse success in learning and individual development.

Our excellent academic, artistic, and sporting results speak for themselves. However, we don’t take anything for granted and always celebrate the boy’s success and hard work regardless of the result.

A key highlight for the international department was the talent and hard work that our international boys achieved in 2020 especially Mark Pham (Yr. 13) who achieved an outstanding scholarship results in Level 3 Physics. Tommy Chen (Yr. 12) taking out the Department Prize for Physics and spending the January summer holidays at Otago University Physics Department because of his hard work. Nearly all the Year 13 International boys received merit or excellence endorsed level 3 NCEA.

At King’s the boy’s achievements are celebrated in a unique way and recognized at the School Prize Giving. https://www.kingshigh.school.nz/academic/school-prizegiving/

NCEA Academic blues awards are celebrated in term 1 of every year and award students for their Sports, Culture and or Academic success. Not many schools award the boys for their effort and achievement. King’s does this with pride and the boys wear their badges with pride. In addition, our junior boys are celebrated at ‘junior prize giving’ to ensure their efforts and achievements are equally recognised.
