COVID update

Nick McIvor —

Alert level 4 continues. What you need to know - updated 27th August.

Message from the Rector:

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I hope that you and your family are well and have managed to keep your spirits up as the days have passed in lockdown.

The Government announced today that Alert Level 4 will finish at midnight on Tuesday 31 August. King’s will have a limited reopening on Wednesday 1 September.

At Alert Level 3, for Year 9 and 10 students.

  • Under Alert Level 3, only the sons of essential workers, those in designated industries or those from families unable to arrange suitable care, are permitted to return to school.

The Government wants the maximum number of students to stay at home and to continue distance learning.

The school is preparing carefully to receive Juniors at alert level 3 and this will be all the more effective if we have a reliable indication of who we can expect.

We also need it to meet our public health obligations for tracking and maintenance of ‘bubble integrity’.

You will be sent a survey link to tell us if your son needs to come to school next week.

  •   Please complete it before 1 pm on Monday 30 August.

We need this information to inform preparations.

  • If your son is not returning under Level 3, please disregard the survey link.
  • If your son is not identified in the survey, OR afterwards to Mr Smith, Deputy Rector (ds@kingshigh.school.nz) he will not be admitted to the programme.

For our Seniors:

  • The school exams are delayed until the final two weeks of term to run between Thursday 23 September and Wednesday 29 September.
  •  The Year 11 Mathematics MCAT exam is now on the morning of Thursday 30 September. We are waiting for an update from Cambridge International Education (CIE) about IGCSE. At present, the exam schedule is unchanged by CIE.

From Wednesday, King’s will be operating a skeleton staff and the school office will be closed (although calls and email will still be taken).

For Alert Level 3, for those juniors that have confirmed they are attending:

  • Each Junior coming to school is expected to be in uniform, to bring lunch (the canteen is closed) and to be at school from 9 am until 3 pm.
  • If a student does not report to the PAC between 8.30 am - 9.00 am he will need to go home
  • A device needs to be brought to school so he can continue to work with the online material already sent by teachers
  • Your son will be assigned to a room that will be supervised by a teacher. The rest of the school is closed
  • Each room will have no more than 10 boys
  • Supervised breaks will be available
  • Normal King’s expectations around conduct and the pursuit of personal excellence will apply
  • All personal hygiene and social distancing measures are mandatory on-site while in attendance, including the wearing of a mask by each boy and staff member.

I appreciate your support for the school as we navigate our way through the COVID response.

Our priorities continue to be keeping the boys safe and providing the best online learning opportunities we can.

Warm regards,

Ngā mihi mahana,

Nick McIvor
