Nick McIvor —

Learning, growth and excellence have resumed at King’s. The welcome return of the boys’ vitality, optimism, industry and determination signaled the start of the new school year.

A special welcome goes to our new Year 9 boys and students transferring from other secondary schools. All will soon make their mark as they become King’s Men. For strong starts to 2021 the boys were urged at start up assemblies to get back into good habits and routines quickly, to respect our standards and expectations in and out of class, to have clear goals for 2021, and to continue to expand on who they are and what they do at King’s, to their personal advantage and that of others.

New teaching staff have joined us in 2021:

Jesse Dryden (Mathematics/Science)

James McPherson (Mathematics/Science)

Nadia Ruiz (Spanish)

These teachers will add much to the high quality instruction and enrichment we pride ourselves on, and be part of the wider life of the school – including King’s Positive Education and positive masculinity.

The provisional 2020 NCEA results are out and while we’re still analysing them it’s evident that we have maintained high achievement in Levels 1, 2 and 3 and University Entrance. This is a huge credit to the boys and staff with the considerable disruption we had in 2020.

Reflecting on recent years, King’s is increasingly proving itself to be a top New Zealand secondary school in academics, arts, culture and sport. This is the rightful place for us to be and one we must develop further for the boys, and for Dunedin, going forward.

With personal excellence continuing to be our highest priority and main motivation, let’s all work to make 2021 a first-class year at King’s.

Doctrina vim promovet insitam.

Ma te ako e whakaputa mai he taranata whaihua.

Learning brings out one's innate talent.

Ngā mihi nui
