Kingsmen Community Clean Up

Chris George —

Well, the weather gods were on our side on Sunday as we tackled the first Kingsmen Community Clean Up.

Around 25 pupils, parents, staff and Kingsmen gave up their Sunday afternoon to clean up rubbish around our fair city.

The task was tackled with enthusiasm - and we got half a skip full of rubbish from around South Dunedin - the carpark at the Warehouse and Pak'nSave, Middle Beach, and John Wilson Drive.

We recycled the plastics, glass and aluminium gathered.

It would be fair to say that we just scratched the surface, and there are lots of other places that we would have liked to given the treatment had we more time/resources available. Never mind - we had to start somewhere.

The boys were very pleased with the sponsors product from Dominos Pizzas and Burger King - they worked hard and deserved a good feed at the end of the day.

I think the event was a success, and I must mention our other sponsors who contributed - Ollie from Save Money Skips, Countdown Supermarkets and The Warehouse.

The vouchers provided will be gifted to charity groups and I'm sure will be put to good use in the run up to Christmas.

We will look to make the Kingsmen Community Clean Up an annual event (perhaps mid-year rather than trying to fit it in before Christmas!!).  Mr McIvor is keen to get the school mobilised to support it in the future. He sees the value in boys contributing to Community events such as this.
