Narayan Shastri selected for Rotary National Science and Technology Forum

Vidya Shastri —

The Rotary National Science and Technology Forum is an annual event which was established in the late 80’s to grow more Science, Mathematics, and Technology graduates for New Zealand across all areas for study.

The forum is managed as a project of the Rotary Clubs of NZ and fosters academic leadership. It provides opportunity for lectures, on-campus and off-campus activities in a fully residential programme for two weeks with the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) and Massey University. In the past, students have also visited the offices of organisations like: Fisher and Paykel Healthcare, Rex Bionics, Living Cell Technologies, Air New Zealand and Beca Limited.

Across New Zealand, only 168 places are allocated, and each successful student has to go through a rigorous interview process where only the top Mathematics, Science and Technology students are selected with the recommendation of the Science HOD (Mrs Jopson). Last year, Prefect, Aaron Hewson was privileged to attend and sees it as a highlight of his time at King's and Narayan has been selected to attend the forum in early 2021.

As you’d expect, there is a significant cost associated with this trip, but Narayan has managed to obtain a $1,000 scholarship from the Rotary Dunedin club along with, Star and School Council funding which has brought the financial cost of the trip down significantly.

Finally, Narayan would like to thank the aforementioned sponsors and Mrs Jopson for facilitating his attendance on his trip, representing King's on the national level.
