Cricket 1st X1 - Interschool report.

Southland Boys' won the toss on a brilliantly fine and hot day and batted first making 209 all out. King’s best bowling figures were from Nathan Hastie who bowled 23 overs and took 4/62, Kasey Short 3/32 and Finn Ward 2/22 were the pick of other bowlers used.

King’s struggled through to 5/71 off 39 overs and were in danger of letting the game slip away but a gutsy partnership between Nathan Hastie 57 runs (who took 34 balls to get off the mark) and Connor Murray 34 runs with cameo efforts from Nic Brosnahan 29 runs and Finn O’Brien 24 saw King’s declare 9 wickets down 214 runs giving us a lead of 5 runs.

Southland Boys’ (SBHS) were soon in early trouble with Kyle Hastie causing problems for SBHS batsmen finishing with 3/38 and SBHS declared their second innings closed at 6/116 leaving King’s 111 runs to get in 15 overs for the outright win.

King’s started well but were soon in trouble at 5/69 and the game was called off and finished as a draw.

Cricket Junior 1st X1 - Interschool report

King’s won the toss at Queens Park and chose to bat first. The team got through to 134 with Zeke Buschl making 29 and Ryan Watterston 25.

Southland Boys’ replied with 140 with Jacob Gilbert 4/32 , Jacob Murray 2/16 Adam Greenfield 2/3.

King’s batted with much more purpose in its second innings and got through to 241/9 declared. Zeke Buschl 55 runs, Jacob Collie 44, Jacob Gilbert 34 and Ryan Watterston 47 been the main contributors.

This left SBHS 234 runs to win outright. King’s had them in early trouble at 2/12 but a brilliant 120 run partnership by Southland Boys’ looked to have saved the game for SBHS but King's fought their way back into the game and as SBHS got the wobbles and started losing wickets at regular intervals the team sniffed the chance of an outright win. The last 2 overs were filled with more drama with SBHS down to its last batsmen and with 10 fielders clustered around the bat he managed to survived the 4 balls left to gain a draw. Jacob Murray , Louie Clydesdale and Adam Greenfield all finished with 2 wickets each.

Saturday Cricket.

Congratulations to Stirling Gates from the KHS 5th XI who scored a changeless 119 not out on Saturday against John McGlashan.
