RYDA programme provides valuable and positive learning
Recently, the Year 12 students had the opportunity to attend the RYDA Road Safety programme. At the Dunedin Centre for the whole day, the group attended six modules, all linked to promoting skills that would ensure they are active, responsible road citizens and able to make the necessary choices to keep themselves and others safe on the road.
From investigating how their own personality shapes the amount of risk that they are willing to accept to seeing first hand the impact speed has on stopping distances, the group had an engaging time learning about the many factors that they will experience both behind the wheel and as a passenger.
There were also some great links back to our school focus in Positive Education around mental state and positive emotions and how this influences decision making. The group also had the chance to get the perspective of other road users like heavy vehicles and a presentation from the police around how their role in community protection works.
Overall, the value of the messages from all the presenters made the event a positive experience for all of our Year 12 attendees. We wish to thank RYDA and their support partners for putting on such a valuable experience that I am sure each student was able to take some important learnings from.
