Summer Sport Blues Assembly

Jo Harford —

On Thursday, we celebrated the achievements of students who have excelled in specific sporting codes. Four students also received a Silver, acknowledging their representation for New Zealand.

The assembly opened with a speech from Old Boy, Karl Bloxham. Karl is currently head of strength and conditioning at Otago Rugby Union.

Karl is a proud King’s Old Boy. He started here in 1997 and concluded in 2001 when he was joint Head Boy with Simon Kolo’fai. Karl was held in very high regard, representing the school with distinction and exhibiting all the personal characteristics that we treasure in our young men today.

Karl involved himself fully in school life, doing well in the classroom including winning the Year 9 Speech Competition and excelling in the sporting domain. He was a handy Volleyball player, a capable Swimmer (being the junior champion in Year 9 and Year 10) but his passion was Rugby. He played a lot of Otago representative age group Rugby and was an integral fixture in the 1st XV.
