The annual Interschool 1st XI Cricket versus Southland Boys'

Michael Reggett —

The 'Young Guns' were very impressive.

The Annual Interschool 1st XI Cricket game was played last Monday/Tuesday on Tonga Park 2, due to Covid Restrictions.

Southland Boys' stayed privately at their own cost which enabled the fixture to go ahead and we are very appreciative of that.

We were lucky to have former staff member, 1st XI Coach for 14 years and Cap Member #210 to present Caps to #541 Henry King and #548 Jak Macdonald before the start of play.

King's won the toss and elected to bat, after a slow start but with a solid opening partnership of 49 Reuben Potgieter 24 and Oram Gutsell we lost regular wickets to be all out for 129.

Southland Boys' turn to bat saw them post 152. The bowling of our ' Young Guns ' was very impressive

  • Tyler McCleery 2/12
  • Luke Murray 2/16
  • Alex Burleigh 2/23

Our second turn at batting didn't start well and except for some outstanding batting from Jak Macdonald 23 and Tyler McCleery 20 Not Out we would have struggled to save the game, useful contributions also from Henry King 28 and Oram Gutsell 20 enabled King's to reach 140.

Leaving Southland Boys' to score 118 in 10 Overs they decided not to have a crack and the game ended in a draw.

A great event for everyone.  Thank you to the students, teachers and coaches.
