Annual student vs staff cricket match down to the wire.

Simon Cushen —

Mr Reddiex’s lucky streak with winning the toss continued and the Rector's XI decided to bat on a wicket conducive to run scoring.

Mr Turner and Mr Nidamanuru got the Rector’s XI off to a flying start scoring 28 and 32 respectively before retiring to give team mates an opportunity to bat. The good start was continued by Mr Greenfield (29no) and Mr Scott (31no) who showed a nice balance of power and precision in taking the Rector’s XI total through to a respectable 179 in their 20 overs.

In reply the First XI raced to the hundred mark led by Year 10 batsmen Beckham Wheeler-Greenall who scored 32 retired and Nathan Hastie who smashed (34no). Two wickets apiece from Mr Reddiex and Mr Kennedy kept the First XI in check and the students fell an agonising six runs short of the required target meaning the Rector's XI retain the bragging rights for another year.

Man of the match was Nathan Hastie who bowled well and scored runs in a strong all round effort for the students.
