SGCNZ University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival 2023

On Thursday eight schools gathered in the King's and Queen's Performing Arts Centre (PAC) to perform scenes from William Shakespeare's plays.

The twelve hour marathon, Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ (SGCNZ) Otago Regional Festival, showcased scenes from 12 plays including: MacBeth, The Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, Twelfth Night, A Mid Summer Night's Dream, As You Like It, The Tempest, King Lear, Othello and A Comedy of Errors.

The schools included Drama students from St Hilda's Collegiate School, Taieri College, Columba College, Queen's High School, Kaikorai Valley College, Logan Park High School, Trinity Catholic College and King's.

University of Otago is the main sponsor of the festival.

In session one, King's High School students, Gregor Watts, Chris Booyens, John Warman, Juandré Rademeyer, Harvey Rawlings, Casey Jowsey and Rahul Rao Nilapu performed Act II Scene ii and Act III Scene i from A Comedy of Errors. They were directed by King's Drama Teacher Sofie Welvaert and King's English Teacher Dr Carol Wyvill.
