Library News

Debbie Vercoe —

A great start to 2022.

Things are hurtling along in the Library. This year we have had 69 new Fiction books and 51 new Non Fiction books added to the collection. Many of these titles have been purchased based on suggestions and recommendations from students.

On average,10 classes are visiting the Library each week to choose books to read for enjoyment and to meet the requirements of their reading programmes in class. It is very satisfying to see students choosing books that they are enjoying and extending themselves in their reading pursuits.

Recently, a Year 10 student finished the book he was reading and told me “I never wanted that book to end!”

Some interesting statistics:

Year 10's have borrowed the most books this year - 736

Year 12's - 665, Year 9's - 612, Year 13's - 578 and Year 11's - 353

9Gi (160 books) and 10Hi (143 books) are the top junior classes for borrowing books!

WKi is the Top House Group (146 books)

Mathew Latuivai is the top book borrower (26 books)!

We celebrated St Patrick’s Day on Thursday 17th March. The Irish flag was proudly flying (thanks to Mr Reggett) and the Librarians added some green touches to their uniforms at interval and lunchtime.

We had a colourful display, thanks to Liam Thorne and Massimo Pezzuto, several competitions, including a quiz, thanks to Toby Dobson, find the Lucky 4 Leaf Clover, thanks to Jason Ischia and and “Go Green for Gold”, an incentive for boys to try something new and read a book with a green cover.

Needless to say, the pot of gold was a big incentive for the boys to get involved and seek out the prizes.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make this a fun event.

Watch this space for more of these special events.

Have a wonderful long weekend….take time to read and relax!
