Four King's boys took part in the 2nd Round of the South Island Surfing Grom Series at the end of January over in Westport and did very well.

The South Island Grom Series is a Quad Competition Circuit covering four South Island locations - Dunedin, Westport, Christchurch and Kaikōura, and sees surfers (boys & girls) surf in age group divisions from U14 - U18.

Surfers gain points depending on their placing in each individual comp. The best three out of four finishes count towards the overall standing in the South Island.

Karne Gabbott won his first round match up in the hotly contested Under 18 Boys and just fell short by the smallest margin in his semifinal.

Keo Morrison hit his straps in the quality waves and won the Under 14s.

Flint Sherborne-France finished 2nd in the Under 14s and fourth in the Under 16s.

Noah Gabbott also competed and made it into the semifinals of both divisions.

Lewis Murphy and Jack Higgins contested a North Island Grom Series event in Mount Maunganui. The event had some challenging stormy waves with Jack finishing 9th in the Under 14s and Lewis finishing 17th in the Under 16s.

Results from the Otago Surfing Champs run over Waitangi weekend and will be in next week’s King’s Week.
