Library News

Debbie Vercoe —

Life in the Library is very busy. Last week, we farewelled our Year 13 Book Gang members with a pizza lunch. With the departure of the senior Librarians for study leave, the junior Librarians and enthusiastic volunteers, have stepped up to take on the duty slots to issue and return books and chromebooks. It is great to see these students taking on the opportunity for demonstrating responsibility, leadership and service.

Junior classes continue to visit the Library for reading and research. Seniors have been in, each day, to complete assessments or to study and/or attend tutorials with teachers. We are all appreciating the quiet, focussed atmosphere and the junior students have been very supportive; enjoying the extra space to pursue their own quiet activities.

The Summer Book Bag Programme has been well subscribed and I am very much enjoying the challenge of gathering a selection of books for students to read during the summer holidays.

A wonderful surprise, early this week, came with the delivery of a huge box of books from Old Boy, Radin Vajedi and his family. Radin, who was in Year 12 last year, has generously donated a varied selection of popular titles and excellent books to the Library. We are all extremely grateful for this fabulous and thoughtful gift to the school.

The annual Library stocktake is fast approaching and there has been a concerted effort to remind seniors to return books. In most cases, reminder emails were sent to students, and parents/caregivers. These books were due back on November 1st and many have been returned. Books that have yet to be returned by Wednesday 16th November, will be charged to students’ accounts. Please contact me if there is a problem with returning these books. library@kingshigh.school.nz

Best wishes to everyone sitting exams.
