Caversham Relays

Grant Koedyk —

The Caversham Relay was held at King’s on Wednesday and doubled up as the Interschool with OBHS.

The races were close and the Senior A Team (Drew Cairney, Zach Mason, Sam Gouverneur and Malachi Buschl) knew that they were in for a tough race as Otago Boys' has very good runners, and Nathan Hill is an exceptional runner. The team knew that they needed to be around 20 seconds ahead before Nathan started as he was their 4th runner. Unfortunately we needed 25 seconds as Nathan chased Malachi down, which meant that we were 2nd in the Senior race.

It was down to the Juniors (Flynn Murdoch, George Procter, Noah Scott and William Scharpf), who also knew that it would be very close. We were coming just behind OBHS until our 3rd runner Noah Scott was able to make up 13 seconds on his rival, which meant that William went in with a 1 second lead. He ran 5:49 for the last lap and so did his rival which led to an exciting finish. With the Juniors winning their Interschool race and the Senior's loss, the overall Interschool result was a draw. Our other teams ran very well and lots of our runners achieved personal bests.

The results for the relay were;
