King’s High School Junior 1st XI & Senior 1st XI both capped off unbeaten seasons in the local OSSSA Competition with wins in their respective finals at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Senior 1st XI beat John McGlashan College 3-2

The team will now prepare for September’s Tournament Week in Christchurch where they will compete against the top 32 teams in the country.

The Junior 1st XI beat Otago Boys' High School 3-0

The game started with King’s kicking off and 90 seconds later the ball was in the back of the net. 1-0 to King’s with a neat finish from Oli Phillips. From there the game was a scrappy and hard-fought affair. With two minutes to go in the first half, Nikau Rata popped up at the back post and slotted in a tidy finish. 2-0.

The second half saw the game open up with chances for both teams. Scott Glover in goal pulled off some impressive saves and read the game well. Sam Cosgrove smashed the post with a vicious drive. Hamish Mair popped up on the right hand side, ran through the Otago Boys' High School defence and stroked the ball home with a delightful finish.

A great game for the spectators and a memorable result for a talented and hard-working team.   Well done and good luck for Tournament Week in Tauranga defending your title.
