This was the day of truth for the fierce competition that students had displayed over the last eight weeks while incorporating their ideas of what would make the fastest dragster, into a balsa wood model. 

To win, their design not only had to be the lightest and fastest but have the strength and durability to survive the rapid acceleration, and even more rapid de-acceleration, at the other end of the 20m track. 

There were some stunning results within the two racing categories; one with tight specifications as to width, length and weight etc, and the “Outlaw” class, where anything goes. 

Fastest racer for this year’s Standard Class was Gustav Teitge with a time of 0.656 seconds. This was a new record, beating the previous record which had been standing for four years, by .006 of a second. Second was Ben Wood with a time of 0.707, with Will Stewart third with 0.757. The Outlaw Class was won by Levi Baxter with a time of 0.801 seconds. However, the most prestigious award of the day is the Dragster Design Award. This coveted title is decided by combining the scores of student design work, model construction and race placing. This year’s worthy winner was Adam Dunlop. Well done, Adam!
