King's attends prestigious Cricket event

Michael Reggett —

The Bi-Annual Willows Cricket Dinner was held on Tuesday night at St.Bede's College in Christchurch and was attended by Mr Reddiex, Mr. Cushen, the 1st XI Coach, players Nathan Hastie and Beckham Wheeler-Greenall and myself.

The event is held for teams who play against the Willows at their home ground at Loburn in North Canterbury and is run by the players under the direction of Willows icon Mike Dormer.

This year the MC was Max Chu from Otago Boys' who did an awesome job. Each task or toast was carried out by a member of one of the visiting 1st XI's. We listened to awesome speeches from Sir Richard Hadlee and ex All Black Captain Reuben Thorne. There was also an excellent panel discussion conducted by Malcolm Ellis who interviewed the Marshall twins, Justin and Hamish, along with Peter Fulton.

The evening concluded with each of the attending schools receiving a set of batting gloves courtesy of ASB who have been a major sponsor of the Willows for 20 years. Each of the attending Rectors or Principals received a copy of "Skippers' Diary" written by Sir Richard Hadlee which tells the story of the 1949 NZ Cricket Team captained by his father Walter.

We wish to acknowledge Sir John Hansen who hosted the event and again thank him for his continued support of Cricket at King's.
