Field Trips are a highlight every year

Gabriella Hyndman —

It has been a busy start to Term 2 for Geographers, with research field trips for years 11, 12 and 13.

These field trips are a highlight every year and this year was no different.

Year 11 students visited Tautuku in the Catlins to gather data about variations in temperature and were lucky enough to have some very warm autumnal weather and spent lots of time down on Tautuku Beach.

The Year 12's spent two nights at Aoraki/Mt Cook. It was a busy trip gathering data at various sites around the National Park, including Red Tarns and Mueller Lake. Another highlight was a swim at the Tekapo Hot Pools. Weather impacted our helicopter flights but some students were lucky enough to get a snow landing.

The two Year 13 classes spent a day exploring Dunedin’s coastline, visiting four beaches. Again, the weather was a talking point with high swells and short beaches. It was a great day exploring some pretty epic beaches right on our back doorstep.
