Library News: Maths and School Libraries Week Celebrated

This week is the nationwide School Libraries Week, and Maths Week. The Mathematics Department have sponsored ten, $5 canteen vouchers to be awarded to students who solve the daily Maths problem and enter in the draw. This has been a very popular challenge with students in the Library and ten lucky students have enjoyed winning the vouchers.

During the week, I asked a cross-section of students what the King’s High School Library means to them. The overwhelming response from all students was that the Library is a warm place to be on a cold day. This is evidenced by the large numbers of students who are in the Library before school and at intervals and lunchtimes.

Here’s what some students had to say about our Library:

Rocky Allan – The Library is a place to do work, study and to meet up with friends.

Blake Carter – The Library is a flexible place where I can work or socialise.

Thomas Jenkins – The Library is my happy place. It’s a comfortable place where I can be me and it is also a source of information.

Roman Hurley –The Library is a safe space with a good atmosphere. There is a range of activities to bring people in.

Dalton Goodfellow –The Library is a place to be with other like-minded people. It is a haven and there is a selection of great books, some of which I never thought I’d read. They were recommended to me and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them.

Yazan Ghanam – It’s a quiet and warm place where I can come and get a chrome book for my work and to read my favourite Manga Series “One Piece”.

Thilina Rathnayaka Mudiyanselage –I come to the Library for peace and quiet and to get a chrome book and find books by Rick Riordan.

Owen Wheeler – The Library is a warm place to socialise with friends. In my role of Student Librarian I am able to offer an important service to the school in issuing books, issuing chrome books, participating in Book Gang and leading by example. The Library has a wide variety of books. There is something for everyone and I particularly like the great selection of Maths books.

Ricky Fung – The Library is a safe, warm space for book lovers and provides access to information and resources. The regular competitions and activities are a draw card for many students.

The Library is all of the above and more. “The only thing you absolutely have to know is the location of the Library” Albert Einstein.
