King's Rowing crew produce notable results at North End Rowing Club Regatta

Ceri Warnock —

Last weekend, the King’s High School Rowing Crew had a fantastic time competing in the North End Rowing Club Regatta on the Dunedin Harbour. The weather was kind, the water was flat, and there was a good-natured competition amongst the Dunedin schools present. The boys raced in over fifteen races and were able to consolidate the skilful training they have received so far from the coaches.

  • 2nd in U15 Novice Double – Shaun Thomson and Gabe Scott

  • 2nd in U17 Double – Elijah Trounson and Alex McKeever

  • 3rd in U17 Single – Alex McKeever

  • 4th in Adult Men’s Open Single – Alex McKeever

Huge thanks to our dedicated coaches (and King’s Old Boys') Hayden George (North End Rowing Club Captain) and Neil Burrow (NZ Rep and Otago all-round Rowing legend), and to Melissa Casañas Maya for organising everyone so well.

The KHS Crew is currently looking for a Coxswain to coordinate the crew in the Quad and Octuple boats. Coxswains need to be able to motivate the crew, have good judgment, and keep a cool head under pressure. Boys develop good leadership skills through coxing a crew. If you are interested, please contact Mr McMillan or message the KHS Crew through their Facebook page KHS Rowing 2023/24.
