Polyfest an enriching experience

Kris White —

This year David Jenkins and I had the privilege of working with the Pasifika boys and their tutors to prepare them for Polyfest.

The dedication and hard work from the boys was impressive. At most of the many rehearsals over the last few weeks we had almost full attendance, and if they were absent it was because they had other important commitments. Their dedication and teamwork was impressive and to say they worked hard is an understatement.

Such a talented group of young men, their musical skills and ability to learn complex routines quickly constantly amazed me. A big thanks to the tutors, Paul, George and Mike.

I asked a few of the juniors to sum up their experience at Polyfest 2017, this is what they said:

Fatai

This year was the best Polyfest I have ever participated in, in all my years of Polyfest. It was fun to be beside the boys. I want to say thank you to Mr Jenkins, Ms White, Mike, Paul, George and Mr Koedyk for helping me and the boys out this year.

Nicholas

This was the first year I ever performed in New Zealand. It was great and we all worked together. I loved being in Polyfest.

Faitonu

Out of all my years of performing, 2017 was one of the best Polyfest performances I have ever seen. I have only been here for 3 years, before that I was in Auckland.

Jonah

This was a solid Polyfest with the boys and it was tika learning together. Thanks to the tutors for teaching us how to do the Island style. Especially with the Year 13 boys since it was their last year and good luck to them on their new journey. Brothers for life. King's High School number #1. Can’t wait for 2018.

Kata

It was tika hitting the stage with the boys and learning heaps with them. Thanks to the tutors for helping and teachers as well. Can’t wait for another performance and 2018 Polyfest.

Neemia

This was the first time I ever performed at Polyfest. It was solid performing beside the boys. We all worked very hard. Just want to say a big thanks to the tutors for giving up their time to teach us and helping us out this year.
