Drink Driving Message

A powerful message for students delivered through drama.

Drink Driving Message for Year 12

On Tuesday, Year 12 students watched the Aidan Theatre Group performance of Too Much Punch for Judy, by Mark Wheeller. The play is a dramatization of the 1983 true story of Judy, drinking then driving, crashing into a bridge and killing the passenger, her sister Jo. Five actors play the characters of Judy, Jo, their mother, and several others involved at the time.

Using a clever mobile set of car doors, projecting phrases of the crashed car photo onto the back wall, and simple T-shirt and trousers costumes, we were quickly taken into the world of partying, drinking and the dire consequences of poor decisions. High energy and emotional performances served to impress the audience with the significant responsibility of driving and the outcome of doing so while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or with distractions. We were left with a surprising epilogue to the story that will keep us all thinking for some time to come.

"Too Much Punch for Judy" is a powerful play.  There is a public performance on Saturday 26 June, 7.30 pm at the New Athenaeum Theatre in the Octagon.
