Otago – Southland Rotary Four Way Speech Competition

Ralph Gordon —

King’s was very ably represented in the first round of this competition by Callum Steele-McIntosh (Year 13), and Joey Mackle, (Year 12).

Up against strong opposition from representatives from Bayfield High School at the Dunedin South preliminary on Tuesday night, Callum took the honours, including the $100 first prize, and will proceed to the Dunedin final in April.

Both Joey and Callum had strongly future-focussed speeches. Joey presented strong arguments, sounding caution against our headlong plunge into human cloning, while Callum gave a more philosophical presentation, arguing that in making tricky moral decisions, we need to less emotional and more utilitarian.

Congratulations to both boys, representing their school with great credit.
