Introducing......Fraser Harrold

Kia Ora

My name is Fraser Harrold. My wife, Suzie, and I have two boys, Angus, in Year 9 at King’s, and Rory, in Year 8; he will be starting at King’s next year. My eldest enjoys all the cultural, sporting and academic aspects of life at King’s, while forming bonds of friendship that will likely last into his adult life. Rory will be joining from Tahuna with many of the friends he met there and is thrilled by what King’s has to offer after the recent open evening.

I am an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Lecturer working at Dunedin Public Hospital and the University of Otago. My role includes teaching future doctors, training surgeons and undertaking research focused on improving outcomes for patients. I have experience as Lead in Clinical Governance focused on assessing the quality of clinical care and as Trauma Lead in a Major Trauma Centre in Scotland.

I love sport with all its demands and benefits and, after participating for most of my life, I have, more recently, enjoyed coaching junior rugby (and my children) for the last 7 years.

How can I contribute?

King’s High School has a strategic plan focused on building resilient men with integrity, compassion and respect, who take responsibility for their actions and strive to excel. In the context of constant change, the next few years in King’s will be challenging, particularly with the introduction of a new national curriculum.

I am passionate about teaching and training future doctors and have a research interest focused on improving outcomes for patients. I would like to bring my passion, experience, analytical skills, and role within the University of Otago to the Board at King’s to support the current leadership team in implementing the vision of “Building men for Life”.

Through both my job and experience playing and coaching in sport, I understand the importance of responsibility, working as a team, and personal commitment. These are key elements of an effective Board of Trustees.
