School Council Events 2019

Samuel Blackwood —

The School Council plays an important role in the school and its Chairman, Samuel Blackwood, has written an outline of events that they will be organising in the remainder of 2019.

Work Day

As with previous years, King’s High School is holding a work day this year. It will be held on Monday of week four next term (the 20th of May). On work day, the expectation is that students will find a job for the day and contribute $20 of what they earn to the School Council.

Unlike in previous years, only a limited number of students will be able to perform work at school on work day if they are unable to find a job. Information on where to sign up to perform work at school will be in the daily notices closer to work day.

Work day contributions are different to other contributions to the school in that they don’t go in the “general pot” so to speak, but rather to the School Council, which is an organisation run by students looking to directly benefit students.

School Council funds raised by work day will be going towards individual/group funding requests and major projects, with the major project for this year likely to be shade sails (though this is subject to further confirmation). The approximate split for the funds we raise is likely to be one third towards individual funding and two thirds towards major projects. However, the exact amount of money we have available for individual funding and pursuing major projects like shade sails depends entirely on how much money the School Council receives in work day contributions. This is why it is very important that students meet expectations around work day contributions.

Can Collection

The School Council is also responsible for organising King’s High School’s annual can collection. The day of the collection will be a mufti day, but a contribution of a minimum of two cans is expected from those that do arrive in mufti. Last year 2257 cans were collected and donated to the Octacan Appeal, so it would be great if we could collect in excess of this amount next year. Currently the can collection is planned for late term two, with further details to be sent out closer to the time.
