School Council Events 2019

Samuel Blackwood —

Samuel Blackwood, Chairman of the School Council, outlines the role of our council and an important event coming up this term.

Work Day

As with previous years, King’s High School is holding a work day this year. It will be held on Monday, week four, this term (20th May). On work day, the expectation is that students will find a job for the day and contribute $20 of what they earn to the School Council.

Unlike in previous years, only a limited number of students (30) will be able to volunteer to perform work at school on work day if they are unable to find a job. While unfortunate, this is because the school does not have enough suitable work to require the efforts of more than 30 students. Students are able to sign up for one of these limited places using the sign up sheet in the library.

Work day contributions directly benefit students.

School Council funds raised by work day will be going towards individual/group funding requests and major projects, with the major project for this year likely to be shade sails (though this is subject to further confirmation). The approximate split for the funds we raise is likely to be one third towards individual funding and two thirds towards major projects. However, the exact amount of money we have available for individual funding and pursuing major projects like shade sails depends entirely on how much money the School Council receives in work day contributions.
