Tomuri communicates a "beautiful message"...twice!

Kaine Harington —

Tomuri has rounded out his year of songwriting success by winning the Uke-Can-Do-It Competition in the same week that his song "Pohutukawa" is released on the Play It Strange compilation album.

People competing in the Uke-Can-Do-It Songwriting Competition were tasked with writing a song that can be performed on the ukulele by students of a range of ages and abilities.

Tomuri's song "Different" was composed with exactly this in mind and does so with real flair and a positive message of celebrating the differences in people.

As part of his prize, Tomuri's song will be published in the 2021 Kiwileles Songbook and Kiwileles schools will be performing it at next year’s events.

The NZ Ukulele Trust have shared a video of Tomuri Performing the song along with the following message. "Such a beautiful message - we can’t wait to hear it played by our massed ukulele orchestra!"

Earlier in the year, we celebrated the wonderful news of Tomuri Spicer being named as a finalist in the Lion Foundation Songwriting Competition. As part of his prize, Tomuri was able to record his song "Pohutukawa" at Orange Studios in Christchurch.

Today we get to enjoy the fruits of this labour, with the release of the Play It Strange compilation album. Please enjoy "Pohutukawa"
