Crickets Annual Fixture against the 'Willows'

Michael Reggett —

The Willows invite Secondary Schools from around NZ. This was King's 15th Trip.

Cricket - King's First XI

The middle weekend of the recent school holidays the 1st XI Cricket team travelled to Loburn which is just outside Rangiora, for our 'Annual Fixture' against the ' Willows'.

The Willows invite Secondary Schools from around New Zealand, this was our 15th trip and a very special occasion. We were the first boy's school to play at the Willows since the founder Mike Dormer passed away in April of 2021.

We lost the toss and the Willows choose to bat, scoring 191/ 8 off their 50 overs.

Michael Flanagan 3/36 off 9 overs and Jackson Clearwater 2/25 off 10 overs were back up by 5 excellent catches and some awesome fielding in the last 30 overs. Paul Russell and Kyle Hastie who are Old Boys' of King's were part of the Willows side.

After an outstanding lunch, it was King's turn to bat but unfortunately, we couldn't beat the Willows total and were all out for 123. Joe Ingram (our Skipper) was out for 36, he received backup from Henry King, 25 not out and Jackson Clearwater, 23.

At the BBQ King's was presented with a book about the 49's Tour of England. Michael Flanagan was awarded the 'Larkins' as the King's Man of Match and we had to leave the 'Clive Geary' at the Willows for another year!

Thank you to Paul Rutledge who was match manager, Di, Jim and in particular Ben Dormer for hosting us for the day.
