John Barr —

Justin Elliot Stott 1988–1992

Justin was a School Prefect in 1992. He gained a School Blue for Cycling. His Cycling career in 1992 progressed very rapidly when his local and National successes lead to a place in the New Zealand Junior Cycling Road Team which was travelling to race in Canada to compete in what is reckoned to be the most prestigious junior tour in the world.

Here are just some of Justin’s successes:

  • Winner Grand-Pris de Bois-Francs Victoriaville. Montreal 60 km junior criterium
  • First junior home in Les Mardis de Lachine senior criterium, Canada
  • Third in Chin International Junior Criterium, Toronto
  • First Le Defi du Velomane criterium series. St Jean-sur-Richelieu, Montreal, Canada
  • Winner Coupe Cendos Val des Neiges Criterium, Quebec, Canada
  • Winner 115 km Junior National Trial
  • First S.I. Sec. Sch. Champs, Wigram (30 km)
  • First Tamahine Junior Tour (270 km, 6 stages).

Justin had so much time off Cycling in 1992 that it was impossible for him to sit the Bursary Examinations. However, in 1993 he attended the University of Otago where he studied for a Commerce Degree. He graduated in 1998 with Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) in Marketing.

Justin served as National Marketing Manager for Robertsons Australia from June 2006 to July 2007. He then worked as Marketing General Manager for Motor Trade Finances from October 2007 until December 2010. Then from 2011 until the present he has been Commercial Property Manager for the firm Property for Lease.

Some other Companies he is, or was, associated with are Vroom Limited, Vroom Car Loans Limited, Positive Property Limited, Peppermint Property Limited, Harborough Properties Limited, Elliot Holdings Limited, Connect Marketing Consultancy Limited and Nomos Limited.

Justin was raised in Macandrew Rd, South Dunedin, and has spent 10 years redeveloping the old Mainland Cheese Factory into a mixed-use commercial site. Since then, in May and June 2022, Justin has bought three connected buildings in King Edward St and is expected to settle soon on a fourth. His concept plans were for a three-level building, at 134-154 King Edward St, including 300sqm of retail and 3000sqm of office space, as well as 40 car parks.

He also plans to strengthen and refurbish 160 King Edward St as a heritage building. The result should be that most of the block, which is currently in a poor state, will be rebuilt or refurbished. The resulting development should be a modern retail development and office space.
