Dr Paul Oestreicher is a key link to the King's Leadership Programme.
Student leadership is promoted at King's through the Oestreicher Leadership Award.
King's was very fortunate to have Dr Paul Oestreicher visit this week. He shared his humble beginnings as a refugee from Germany. A man who has devoted his life to peace and social justice and is quite sincere about his belief that love will conquer all and compassion is at the heart of what matters.
The underlying driving force of the Leadership Programme is student engagement. We encourage all of our students to commit to all facets of school life and to deliver their “personal best”.
Throughout the year our students earn points for displaying outstanding leadership qualities from a variety of different categories. These points are displayed in the Library Foyer at the end of each Term allowing students to track their progress.
At the conclusion of the academic year, students will be awarded a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Leadership Award depending on how many points they accrue.
This points system places an emphasis on:
- a high level of attendance
- a high level of engagement in every class, which is tracked through our weekly notes system
- an extra reward is given for work of an exceptional standard (Merit Referrals) for both in the classroom and in an extra-curricular capacity.
- service to school (ie. service to the Library, coaching a team, umpiring a junior team etc), is also highly valued and acknowledged with points, as is a house group activity or house leadership involvement such as leading house activities like the Haka, driving the House Singing Competition and many more team and group engagement opportunities.
At each Year level, the student with the highest number of points will be recognised at the End of Year Prizegiving with a King's Man of the Year award.
