Flying at 17 years of age!

Teresa Robertson —

Josiah Scott, Year 13 has already accomplished his Private Pilot Licence.

Josiah Scott recently passed his practical test for his Private Pilot Licence. Once he receives his licence in the post, he can fly!

Thanks to a passion that started from visiting the airfield and watching planes when he was growing up, Josiah went on a 'trial flight' three years ago to see what it was like. He clearly got the 'flying bug'.  Josiah started his training flights with the Otago Aero Club and then moved to Mainland Air at Dunedin Airport to finish off his training.

After six written exams, that ranged from navigation, communication, aviation law, aircraft technical knowledge and metrology, along with 50 hours of flight training he was ready for the final test, which he passed.

From this point, Josiah will go to Flight School in Christchurch for two further years.  This will include a further 200 hours of flying and a lot more exams!

Josiah has exciting dreams including flying in the outback in Australia and is especially thankful to his parents for their support and encouragement, Karene and Randal Scott.

This is a great example of following your dreams. All the very best Josiah.
