Deputy Rector Appointed

David Booth —

The King’s High School Board of Trustees are pleased to publicly announce to the school community that a permanent appointment has been made to the position of Deputy Rector. The successful candidate is Mr Sheldon Revell and he will commence his duties as Deputy Rector at the beginning of Term 3.

The Board also wishes to acknowledge the outstanding job that Mr Darin Smith has done in his capacity as the acting Deputy Rector since Mr Paterson’s departure.

I requested that Mr Revell write a few words by way of an introduction. “I am excited and humbled by the opportunity to contribute to the successes of King’s High School. I have a wealth of experience around education both here and overseas with a real passion for boys’ education. I have nearly 20 years experience in education, having started my career at Kelston Boys' High School in Auckland as a Physical Education Teacher. It was here I developed my appetite for excellence and for boy’s education. I then ran national physical activity and nutrition programmes for the National Heart Foundation of New Zealand before travelling and teaching in England and Australia.

Upon returning to New Zealand I worked as Deputy Principal at the very successful Henderson High School in Auckland. For the past year I have been running a school for disengaged youth on the Gold Coast, Australia, a very different climate to Dunedin, and King’s High School in so many ways (I am hoping for a mild winter that’s for sure).

I personally strive continually for excellence in all that I do, though this seems to have an adverse affect on my golf handicap. I am an avid sportsman, having played and coached a plethora of codes, and look forward to contributing and seeing the young men of King’s High School excel both outside and inside of the classroom. I am excited to be joining your exceptional school, and look forward to working closely with, and adding to the legacy of the young men, staff and community of King’s High School.”
