Volleyball South Island Secondary Schools

Dave Conrad —

After last week’s successful exchange against Shirley Boys' High School - the top Christchurch School - King's travelled to Christchurch to compete in the SISS Mainland Volleyball Champs.

We entered two teams, King’s Scorchers & King's Mavericks and were surprisingly seeded into Division 2 of the tournament.

The Scorchers are our Senior B side and The Mavericks were all Year 11 boys and also the youngest team competing at the event.

Both sides were in opposite pools.

The display of Volleyball provided by both King's teams was a pleasure to be able to witness.

King's Volleyball was certainly the talk of the tournament, with their style of play, energy, enthusiasm and overall support of each team’s endeavour’s during the weekend.

This group of 20 "Young Lions" were remarkable ambassadors of our school both on and off the court and an absolute privilege to be part of.

Massive thanks to King's High School Old Boy Andy Campbell, who’s who is one of the best coaches I've been lucky enough to be involved with in any code! Also to Chase Iti another ex KHSOB helping coach our Scorcher's team and, finally, the irrepressible KHSOB staff member Garry Turner Manager Extraordinaire! A big thank you to all of you fine men for your efforts, truly top rate!

Finally to the all the players, great effort by you all, keep working hard and more special results will come your way.
