The Year 12 Biology class used M & M's to model Genetic Drift, Founder Effect and the Bottleneck Effect. 

They had to calculate the ‘allele frequency’ within a population and then model the effect of ‘individuals’ leaving the population or a natural disaster on the ‘allele frequency’. This allowed them to critically think about the effect on the future of the population of M & M's - a very important issue!
