Hip Hop Success at Nationals

Wayne McMillan —

The Hip Hop Nationals were held in Dunedin at King's High School in early September and two King's students, Liam Thorne, Year 13 and Tuki Potiki, Year 9 won their dance categories.

Catching up this week Liam said the Nationals were a lot less stressful and tiring than the  Regionals in August where he danced over eight hours—five times on stage—two times for his Raso Crew, DFYNT and three with his partner for Raso duo Deuce.

At the Nationals both DFYNT and Deuce only needed to dance twice.

DFYNT eventually won their category and Deuce came fourth which wasn't so bad considering it had been his first time performing as a duo with Mikayla Cannon from Otago Girls' High School.

We were unable to catch up with Tuki Potiki who was busy performing in He Waka Kōtuia at the Regional Polyfest last week and the National Manu Kōrero Speech Competition this week.
