He Pouwhenua, He Puapua: National Secondary Schools' Kapa Haka Competition

Isaac Hensman —

At the end of Term 3, He Waka Kōtuia, King’s and Queen’s Kapa Haka Group, flew to Palmerston North to compete in the National Secondary Schools Kapa Haka Competition.

The students stayed a week in Palmerston North, practising, performing at a range of venues, and enjoying performances from other schools.

Many months of practice and hard work paid off with a spectacular, powerful performance, and an impressive 26th placing in the competition. The group also gained an outstanding 13th place in its command of Te Reo Māori.
