Science Wānanga

Jonny Waters —

From Monday to Wednesday seven Year 9 students had the opportunity to go to Ōtākou Marae for the yearly Otago University Science Wananga.

Science Wānanga is a three day, hands-on experience for Māori secondary students in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Staying on the marae with university students, scientists and kaumātua, students get to hang out and do practical science in their local environment.

The King’s High School students that went had a fantastic time and learnt about various aspects of: Bioarchaeology, Taxonomy, Ecology, Sea Lions and Physics. Many thanks to Mrs Jopson, Matua Matiu and Mr Waters for looking after the students and organising this opportunity.
