1st XI Cricket Report

Michael Reggett —

Last Saturday the 1st XI played their first fixture on their beloved King's No.1 and it was fitting that it was against Carisbrook Dunedin Pups; a team of King's Old Boys from last year who have been organised by Tom Jolly & Jamie Crawford.

This is quite unique in that a team has been created by old boys who are in their first year out of school. While they have struggled with results, they have fronted each week to play their fixtures.

King's were asked to bat after losing the toss. Jeremy Hastie made a top score of 53 and all our other batsman got starts but failed to build on the opportunity. We got to 9/242 after our 50 overs.

After lunch Finn Ward & Kylie Hastie opened our attack and after 12.3 overs  C/D Pups were all out for 43. An awesome effort.

The fielding, in particular our catching, fully supported our bowling attack. Finn Ward's return for the day was seven overs, two maidens, seven wickets, 16 Runs - truly amazing and just reward for the effort he puts in each week.  He juggles training, along with other sporting and school commitments.

The game was played in a tremendous spirit as it should be and we look forward to the rematch next month.
