Junior Music Workshop

The annual Junior Music Workshop, run by the Itinerant Teachers of Music (ITM’s), was once again held at King’s and Queen’s High Schools on Wednesday.

The workshop is open to Years 7–10 students who have been learning their instrument for a year or more. Numbers were up this year, with over 130 students – Woodwind and Brass workshopping at King’s in the Performing Arts Centre and Strings at Queen’s in the Hall.

Senior students Nikhil Rawat, Damien Wylie and Blake Hughes assisted on the day. Each spent the morning preparing their repertoire and then combining in the Performing Arts Centre for a concert to friends and whanau at 2pm. Pieces this year included:

Strings: The Hallelujah Chorus, The Final Countdown, Shenandoah, and Test Drive (from the movie ‘How to Train your Dragon’)

Wind and Brass: YMCA, Mission Impossible, John William’s Trilogy of Movie Themes, What a Wonderful World, and Riverside Rag.
