Tongan Language Week

Jope Tudreu —

Recently we celebrated Tongan Language Week, 4 – 8 September which had the theme:

“E tu’uola ‘a e lea faka-Tonga’ ‘o ka lea’aki ‘i ‘api siasi (lotu), mo e nofo’-a-kainga’ ”

“The Tongan Language will be sustainable if used at home, church and the wider community”

During this week we raised the Tongan flag in our school Quad and we distributed Tongan Language cards to teachers so that they could use some of these phrases in some their classes.

At the end of the week the Tongan students were able to wear their formal Lavalava or 'Tupenu' and it was great to see this formal Tongan attire. Unfortunately we were not able to share some delicacies from Tonga because we had examination week and we aim to do this at a later time in the year.
