Athletics Nationals 2019

Grant Koedyk —

This year the Nationals were held in windy and wet conditions in Wellington. It started on Friday November 30th, with the qualifying rounds being held over two days and the finals on Sunday.

The weather was atrocious, very windy on the Friday and Saturday and wet on the Sunday. Due to the very poor weather conditions, including thunderstorms and heavy rain, the Road Race Championships were cancelled. This was very frustrating as, for a group of our team, this was going to be the highlight of the weekend.

Not only was the weather frustrating, but the athletes ended up with a few injuries on the Friday which meant that Ryan Kreft and Deacon Heads were pulled out of all events for the weekend.

However, there were some real highlights in the weekend, with Lachie Cameron winning Gold in the Junior Boys' Javelin and Liam Condliffe being named in the Secondary Schools' Track and Field Team.
