Japanese has been very much alive at King’s High School over the past two weeks. On Friday 16th of June, King’s High School hosted the Otago region’s competition for the National Secondary School’s Japanese Trivia Competition (Years 7-10).
Eight teams competed in the event, which ran concurrently with all other regions in New Zealand. The regional winning team was from Opihi College, Temuka and second place went to Otago Girls’ High School. The three King’s High School teams participated enthusiastically and represented the school well.
The King’s High School teams consisted of: Team One (Y9): Rocky Mei, Ben Nicol, Storme Forsyth, Hugh Askerud. Team Two: Thomas Stewardson, Josh Short, Christian Macalisang, Nick Carter. Team Three: Andrew Potter, Cameron McKean, Jesse Bainbridge, Paul Friel.
On Friday 23rd of June the Japan Club (held weekly in B7) had a ‘Fear Factor Food’ Challenge. The Japan club members tasted a range of Japanese food such as Fermented Soya Bean, Salted Picked Plums, Green Tea Pocky, Pounded Rice with Sweet Red Beans etc. The students enjoyed a lot of the food, but some was a little bit ‘foreign’ for them.
