Help our boys get to Africa!

Jo Harford —

In 2018, four (currently Year 11 and 12) students and one adult from King’s High school will embark on an exciting expedition to the Great Rift Valley in Africa. The Operation Wallacea Expedition will take students through Tanzania and Malawi to work with locals and a team of scientists to map the wildlife in and around Lake Malawi.

This is an opportunity for students to work with real, published ecologists to carry out meaningful scientific work that will both assist the local communities and contribute to the understanding of the curious diversification of species in the area and how this knowledge can be applied practically in the conservation arena.

Fundraising is underway for the trip with an amazing raffle and a quiz night!

The raffle will be drawn on 22nd June so don’t miss out.

- First Prize: Two x Jane Goodall VIP meet & greet tickets, 7pm 25th June (value $498)

- Second Prize: Trailer load of firewood (minimum value $100)

- Third Prize: Mystery prize

The quiz night is at the Kensington (on the Oval) from 7pm on Monday 26th June. There will be more raffles to win, much laughing and fun. Tickets cost $5 and are available from the school office. Tickets holders must be 18 years and over. There will be no door sales on the night.

For tickets for either fundraiser, see Arlo Munro, Reuben Morison, Cameron Bruce or Nick Unahi.

Operation Wallacea is a conservation research organisation that runs biological and conservation research programmes around the world. It is funded by, and relies on, teams of student volunteers who join expeditions for the opportunity to work on real-world research programs alongside academic researchers. The work is designed with specific conservation aims, from identifying areas needing protection through to assessing and implementing conservation management programmes.
