Ngā Manu Kōrero Ōtākou & Murihiku Secondary School Whakataetae

Isaac Hensman —

Last Friday, four King’s students competed in Ngā Manu Kōrero speech competition for the Otago/Southland region. Students were entered in both the Māori and English sections, and the senior students were also required to deliver a three minute impromptu speech.

All students put in an outstanding performance, with King’s achieving first place in six out of eight categories.

In the Junior English section, Te Kahurangi McLean gained first place, and Kiringāua Cassidy came first in the Junior Māori section. Taumana Pene won the impromptu English speech section, and came second overall in the senior category. Tūmai Cassidy took out all three sections of the Māori section: impromptu, planned speech and overall.

Congratulations also to Queen's students Maia Tutbury, who came second in the Junior English section and Jordyn Martin, who was first overall in the Senior English section.
