Volleyball Success

Garry Turner —

Another success story coming out of King’s Volleyball.

Over the previous two years, interspersed with Covid disruptions, cancelled tournaments and tours, several of our senior boys have been trialling for the NZ Junior Men’s team.

The team was heading to either Malaysia or Bahrain to compete in the Junior Asian Champs but Covid intervened and both tournaments became “a bridge too far” for Volleyball NZ. However, the boys stayed focused and alternate plans were made to attend the Australian Junior Volleyball Champs in Sydney followed by a test series with Australia in Canberra. Due to the age group split in Australia, it was decided that two NZ teams would be selected; NZ U20 and NZ U19, as well as an NZ U20 Development Side.

King’s Volleyball is pleased to announce, and celebrate, the selection of two King’s Lions' to the following teams.

  • Jacob Evile (Senior Lions' 2021) has been selected for the NZ U20 Development Side and
  • Spencer Campbell (Senior Lions' 2022) has been selected for the NZ U19 team.

Both boys travel to Australia at the beginning of July.

We are incredibly proud of all the boys who trialled. None of them looked out of place amongst the age group elite in this sport. They represented our school and our impressive Volleyball program with style and grace.
