King's High School gave Dean a very good personal development opportunity when he joined the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The “Skills Section” involved Dean developing his building of a stamp collection and giving a five-minute speech on his learnings, the “Service Section" involved a course in First Aid and an ACC course on community safety. The “Expedition Section” was passed with tramp to the Silver Peaks. He gained the Bronze Award at the end of 1987 and the Silver Award in 1989. Dean attended a Residential course for Gold Award candidates where members looked at what people had to cope with – stress teenage problems and so forth – it was an opportunity to get to know other people on the course but to also know oneself a lot better.

Dean is connected to the business community through various organisations and holds several professional memberships including the institute of Directors, Business Networking International and is a founding executive committee member of the newly formed Employment and Careers South Incorporated – he also holds several other governance roles.

He also completed a Successful Networking course with LinkedIn and his certificate was issued in October 2022.

Dean is passionate about the recruitment industry and is a regular contributor at the industry events. He addressed a Business South organised event and gave his coalface insights into the current labour market, attraction and retention of talent, flexible working arrangements and the war on talent. Business South is a not-for-profit organisation providing solutions to southern businesses.

Before joining Platinum, Dean worked for Select Recruitment from 2014 to 2017 – first as a Territory Manager, then a Business Development Manager, a Commercial Business Manager and finally as General Manager.

Earlier he worked for Cerebos Greggs as a Territory Manager for food and beverage from 2010 to 2014 and for Phillip Morris from 2008 to 2010.
